advice on hair straightening?

My daughter wants a hair straightener for her birthday. She has gorgeous thick slightly wavy long hair. She could do a Pantene commercial. She has donated it twice to the wig shops for children with cancer and is growing it to donate it again. It takes two years to go from shoulders to waist length. She does not blow dry it or use chemicals. Should I hold off on the straightener? Will that ruin her hair so she can't donate it. She would like to keep on donating and donating, but now that she is in high school, she wants her hair to look smart. Any advice?

Get her a CHI ceramic flat iron and some thermal protector. Take small 1/8 inch sections of hair starting at the nape, apply a light spritz of thermal protector and starting close to the scalp press the hair in the iron and slowly slide down to ends. The best way to learn to use a flat iron is to take your daughter to the salon and have it done by a professional while you stand by and watch. It really is a very simply procedure.
